Terms of Use

Last updated: October 16, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and LectureHelper (“we”, “us”). You accept them when you check the boxes in the app and click Continue. If you don’t agree, please don’t use LectureHelper.

Please read section 16 carefully. It says that most disputes will be decided by an individual arbitrator, not a judge or jury, and that you give up the right to join a class action. You can opt out within 30 days.

1.The service

LectureHelper turns the sound of online lectures (for example Zoom classes, lecture videos and webinars) into text, and can make summaries and translations. It is a free beta: it is still being built, and features may change, break or be removed.

2.Who can use LectureHelper

You must be at least 18 years old to use LectureHelper. By using it, you confirm that you are. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will delete the account and its data.

3.Your account

You sign in with your Google account. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your Google account secure and sign out on shared computers. Tell us right away if you think someone else is using your account.

  • You must follow your school’s (or employer’s, or course provider’s) rules about recording and transcribing classes.
  • You must get any permission you need before you record or transcribe a class, including from your professor and, where required, from other participants.
  • Some places have laws that require everyone in a conversation to agree before it is recorded. You alone are responsible for getting the consent of the people you record and for following the laws and rules that apply to you.
  • LectureHelper does not notify anyone that you are recording or transcribing: not your professor, not your classmates, not other people in the call. Telling them and getting their consent, where needed, is your responsibility.
  • Don’t use LectureHelper to record private conversations or anything you are not allowed to record.

5.Personal study use only

Transcripts, summaries and translations made with LectureHelper are for your own personal study only. You may not sell, rent, publish, distribute or share them publicly, or use them for any commercial purpose. Lectures and course materials usually belong to your school or professor and may be protected by copyright; respect those rights.

6.Your content

You keep whatever rights you have in your lectures and notes. You give us a limited permission to store and process them only to run LectureHelper for you: to turn speech into text, save your lectures, and make summaries and translations when you ask. This permission also covers the service providers listed on our Subprocessors page, but only as needed to run LectureHelper. We never use your lectures to train AI. See our Privacy Policy.

7.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break any law or anyone else’s rights;
  • try to hack, overload, scrape or misuse the service, or get around its limits or security;
  • use bots or other automated tools to access the service;
  • resell, rent or sublicense the service;
  • upload anything harmful, such as malware.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

8.AI can make mistakes

Text, summaries and translations are produced automatically by artificial intelligence. They may be incomplete or wrong: words can be missed, misheard or misunderstood, and translations can change the meaning. Always check important information, such as deadlines, exam dates or grades, with your professor or the original source. LectureHelper is a study aid, not a replacement for attending class, and must not be relied on for medical, legal, financial or other professional decisions.

9.Beta, changes and availability

Because LectureHelper is a beta, it may be unavailable at times, and we may change, limit or stop any feature. If we stop the service, we will try to give you notice so you can save your lectures. Keep your own copy of anything important (for example, with Save Notes).

10.Price

LectureHelper is currently free. If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you in advance, and you will never be charged without agreeing to it first.

11.No warranties

LectureHelper is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, and we don’t promise that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.

12.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, grades, opportunities, profits or goodwill, arising from or related to LectureHelper. Our total liability for all claims related to LectureHelper is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for LectureHelper in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US $100.

Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

13.Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless us and anyone working with us from any claims, damages, losses and costs (including reasonable lawyers’ fees) that come from: your recordings or content; recording or transcribing anyone without the permission required by your school’s rules or by law; sharing or using transcripts in breach of section 5; or your breaking these Terms or any law.

14.Ending your use

You can stop using LectureHelper at any time and delete your account in the app (My Lectures → Delete my account and all my data); as our Privacy Policy explains, we keep only the record of your agreement to these Terms for 4 years. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or if we stop the service. Sections 5, 6 (the parts about rights), 11–13 and 16–21 continue to apply after your use ends.

15.Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If we do, we will change the date at the top, and the app will ask you to read and accept the new version before you continue. If you don’t accept, you can stop using LectureHelper and delete your account.

16.Disputes and arbitration

Talk to us first

If you have a problem with LectureHelper, email us at lecturehelper.app@gmail.com and describe it. We will try to solve it informally within 30 days, and so must you before starting arbitration or a lawsuit.

Binding individual arbitration

If we can’t solve it, you and we agree that any dispute arising from or related to these Terms or LectureHelper will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitration may take place by video or phone, or in the county where you live. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies.

No class actions

You and we each waive the right to a jury trial and to bring or take part in any class, collective or representative action. Claims may only be brought individually. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim must be decided in court, not arbitration.

Your right to opt out

You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, by emailing lecturehelper.app@gmail.com with the subject “Arbitration opt-out” and your name and the email address of your account. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.

Public injunctive relief

Nothing in these Terms takes away your right to ask for public injunctive relief (a court order whose main purpose is to protect the general public) where the law gives you that right. A request like this will be decided by a court, not an arbitrator, and only after the individual claims in arbitration are finished; until then, the court case is paused. If this paragraph is found invalid or unenforceable, it is removed and the rest of this section 16, including arbitration, stays in effect.

Changes to this section

If we change this section 16, the change will not apply to any dispute that arose before the change took effect. You can also reject a change to this section by emailing lecturehelper.app@gmail.com within 30 days after it takes effect, with the subject “Reject arbitration change”. If you do, the version of this section you last accepted keeps applying to you.

17.Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and applicable US federal law (including the Federal Arbitration Act for section 16), without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute goes to court (for example after an arbitration opt-out, or for public injunctive relief), it will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Santa Clara County, California, and you and we agree to the jurisdiction of those courts, unless the law where you live gives you the right to sue at home.

18.Notice for California users

Under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, California users are entitled to the following notice. LectureHelper can be reached at lecturehelper.app@gmail.com. The service is currently free of charge. If you have a complaint, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210.

19.Feedback and ideas

We love hearing from you. If you send us feedback, ideas or suggestions (for example through the Feedback button), you agree that we may use them for free, in any way, without any obligation to you, including to pay you or to give you credit. This does not give us any rights in your lectures; those are covered by section 6.

20.General

  • These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about LectureHelper.
  • If any part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest stays in effect.
  • If we don’t enforce a right right away, we don’t give it up.
  • You may not transfer these Terms to someone else; we may transfer them if LectureHelper is passed to another operator, who will then be bound by them.
